Our Community

"A strong community is at the heart of the Kabanga Nickel project – capturing value in-country and empowering Tanzania and its people."

Persuant to a formally signed Framework Agreement that defines the governance structure of the Kabanga project, the Government of Tanzania is a welcome partner and 16% owner of the project through Tembo Mining Limited.

By adopting a business model of cradle-to-gate with complete in-country beneficiation, increased value of the Kabanga project will remain within Tanzania. This is a defining initiative as Tanzania and its people will enjoy enhanced economic and social benefits. Furthermore, with the need to export concentrate eliminated, Tanzania will become a significant strategic supplier of Class 1 refined nickel to the world, as well as an important supplier of refined cobalt and copper.

Kabanga Nickel aims to provide the highest standards of community support for the local population around the project area in the Kabanga region. In addition, at the Hydromet Refinery site, hundreds of skilled and technical jobs will be created.

Kabanga Nickel is proud to have the full support of the Government of Tanzania and it looks forward to a close partnership to bring the project through development and into production.

“We welcome our new partners who bring special technical expertise to unlock the value of this great asset. Tanzania is ready, willing and supportive of this important partnership on an equitable share of economic benefits.

His excellency, President Magufuli, who presided over the signing ceremony, enthusiastically endorsed this win-win partnership agreement.”
